Feb 10, 2011

NEW YORK (February 10, 2011) – LeadOff Sports Marketing, in collaboration with United Soccer Leagues (USL PRO), created the first-ever "Japanese player slot". The newly created "Japanese player slot" invited Japanese trialists to take part in 2011 USL Men’s Combine. Hodaka Yonezawa, an 18-year-old trialist from FC Gifu’s Academy, became the youngest Japanese player to participate.

The USL Men's Combine featured top players from throughout North America hoping to land a professional contract. The “Japanese player slot”, a first-ever effort between USL PRO and LeadOff Sports Marketing brought in two Japanese players. Takashi Konta joined Hodaka, a player from FC Gifu's U-18 academy, as the first two Japanese players to appear at the USL Combine.

FC Gifu became the first J.League club to scout young American talents in the United States at the 2011 USL Combine.  As an outcome Kyle Knotek has been invited to FC Gifu’s pre-season camp as a trialist.
